MOUNTAIN BIKE ROUTE SIGNS OF THE REGION OF LA HOYA DE HUESCA.
The route starts from the village of Aniés and goes up a track to reach the base of the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Peña. At this point it is worth getting down the bike and walking up a stretch of trail with stairs to the spectacular cave sanctuary nestled in the rock (estimated time: 10 minutes one way). Back on the track and after visiting the hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña de Aniés, it continues uphill through areas of mountain and pine forest of the Sierra de Caballera, to at one point begin to descend towards the ice well of
Mata Menuda or ice well of Bolea. Also at this point it is worth parking the bike and looking out to see the ice well, one of the best vestiges in the area of what the old ice factories in the mountains were. After visiting the well, we descend by track (watch out for steep slopes) until we reach the hermitage of the Virgen de la Trinidad, another sanctuary located in the surroundings of Bolea and surrounded by fields of cherry trees. From the hermitage, we
continue along the Camino Natural de la Hoya towards the village of Bolea, where it is also worthwhile to visit the town center and the Collegiate Church of Bolea. After visiting Bolea, we continue along the Camino Natural de la Hoya de Huesca towards Aniés passing by the hermitage of Santa Quiteria. After passing this hermitage and in a flat stretch, the route enters a kermes oak grove and makes a short stretch of trail, just before connecting with the
road that leads directly to Aniés.
